What is Niquitin 2 mg Tablets and what is it used for?

It is a nicotine-containing medicine in the form of lozenges with a pleasant mint flavour. They are a smoking cessation aid, as they are part of a type of treatment called Nicotine Replacement Therapy or NRT.

Who is it for?

Suitable for adults and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. The dose of NiQuitin 2 mg is indicated for smokers who smoke 20 cigarettes or less per day.

Instructions for use

Put 1 NiQuitin 2 mg lozenge in your mouth and move it from one side of your mouth to the other, so that it dissolves little by little. This may take about 10 minutes. Do not chew the tablet or swallow it whole.

The recommended daily dose varies depending on the type of therapy chosen (gradual or drastic). It is recommended to follow the instructions included in the package leaflet.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose, which is 15 sucking tablets per day.

Contraindications

Do not use Niquitin 2 mg Tablets:

  • In children under 12 years of age.

  • In case of allergy to nicotine or to any of the components present in this medicinal product.

  • In patients who do not smoke.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Niquitin 2 mg Tablets may cause side effects, but this does not mean that everyone will experience them. In this case, the following have been observed:

Very rare serious adverse effects: swelling of the skin causing difficulty breathing, severe allergic reaction (sudden wheezing, tightness in the chest, rash, feeling faint).

Other side effects:

- Very common: nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbance.

- Frequent: nervousness, dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, tremor, constipation, indigestion/heartburn, flatulence, hiccups, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, pain in the chest, pain in the back of the throat.Rare: difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, pain in upper abdomen, dry mouth, mouth ulcers, mouth discomfort, fatigue (tiredness), general ill feeling, flu-like symptoms, lack of energy.

- Rare: difficulty swallowing, palpitations (feeling the heart beat), increased number of heartbeats.

- Rare: hypersensitivity.

- Frequency not known: convulsions (seizures), abnormal dreams, depression, irritability, anxiety, taste disturbance/distortion, rash, itching, reddening of the skin, increased sweating, urticaria, tingling in the mouth, belching, hypersecretion of saliva,

Composition

Each NiQuitin lozenge contains nicotine resinate equivalent to 2 mg nicotine. The other ingredients are:mannitol (E421), sodium alginate (E401), xanthan gum (E415), potassium bicarbonate (E501), calcium polycarbofilo, sodium carbonate anhydrous (E500), acesulfame potassium (E950), peppermint flavouring (racemic menthol, peppermint oil, acacia), magnesium stearate (E470b), sucralose.
