What is Tebofortan 240 mg and what is it used for?

It isa medicine in tablet form based onGinkgo bilobaextractEGb 761®. Formulated on a herbal basis, it is used to improve age-related cognitive decline.

It comes in a pack of 30 tablets.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults over 18 years of age.

Directions for use

The recommended dose is 1 tablet of Tebofortan 240 mg per day, with a glass of water to facilitate ingestion.

The duration of treatment should be at least 8 weeks. If symptoms worsen or do not improve after a period of 3 months, consult your doctor about the advisability of continuing treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use Tebofortan 240 mg:

• In children under 18 years of age.
• In patients with allergy or hypersensitivity to any of the components present in this medicine.

Adverse effects

Likeall medicines ,Tebofortan 240 mg may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.In this case, these are the effects that may occur during treatment:

• Adverse reactions mainly consist of gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain and nausea, but also, headache, dizziness and vertigo or aggravation of existing vertigo.
• There are isolated reports of bleeding from individual organs.
• Allergic shock or allergic skin reactions (redness, swelling, itching)may occur in hypersensitive individuals .

Precautions

In case of increased bleeding tendency (haemorrhagic diathesis) and simultaneous treatment with anticoagulant drugs, this medicine should only be taken after consultation with a doctor. Isolated reports indicate the possibility that preparations containing Ginkgo may increase the tendency to bleed.

This medication should be discontinued before surgery. Inform your doctor in due time that you have takenTebofortanso that he/she can decide how to proceed.

If you suffer from epileptic seizures, consult your doctor before starting treatment withTebofortan.

Compositio n

Each Tebofortan tablet contains 240.0 mg of dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves EGb 761® as the active substance (dry plant/extract ratio: 35-67:1), obtained with 60% m/m acetone, quantified at 52.8 - 64.8 mg flavonoids calculated as flavoneglycosides and 12.96 - 15.84 mg terpene lactones, of which 6.96 - 15.84 mg terpene lactones , of which 6.8 mg are flavonoids.of which 6,72 - 8,16 mg are ginkgolides A, B, and C, and 6,24 - 7,68 mg are bilobalides and not more than 1,2 micrograms are ginkgolic acids .

The other excipients are:

• Tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate and precipitated silica.
• Tablet coating: microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose 6 mPas, hypromellose 15 mPas, iron oxide red (E 172), iron oxide yellow (E 172), stearic acid and talc.
