What is Reactine eye drops and what is it for?

It is an anti-allergic eye drop whose active ingredient is levocabastine, an active ingredient indicated for the temporary relief of the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, such as: tearing, itching and redness of the eyes.

Contains 4 ml.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. In pregnancy and lactation, consult a doctor before use.

Instructions for use

Apply 1 drop in each eye twice a day (every 12 hours). If relief of symptoms is not maintained for 12 hours, the number of applications may be increased to a maximum of 3 or 4 times a day (every 6 or 8 hours) according to need.

Contraindications

Do not use Reactine eye drops if you are allergic to levocabastine, or to any of the excipients.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to use REACTINE if you have kidney disease, as the drug is mainly excreted through the kidney.

Do not wear soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses.

Side effects

Reactine eye drops may cause side effects, as with all medicines. In this case, the following have been observed:

  • Frequent: eye pain, blurred vision.

  • Rare: swelling of the eyelid

  • Very rare: palpitations, hypersensitivity, headache and eye pain, conjunctivitis, watery eyes, allergic reaction, angioedema (swelling of certain areas of the skin), contact dermatitis, urticaria and reactions at the application site such as burning sensation of the skin.In very rare cases, some patients may experience a reaction such as burning sensation of the eye, redness, irritation, swelling, itching and pain in the eye and blurred vision. In very rare cases, some patients with significant alteration of the cornea (thin front layer of the eye) have developed whitish areas on the cornea due to calcium accumulation during treatment.

Composition

The active substance in Reactine eye drops is levocabastine. Each millilitre contains 0.5 milligrams of levocabastine.

Excipients: Benzalkonium chloride, disodium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous, sodium dihydrogen phosphate mono hydrate, hypromellose, propylene glycol, polysorbate 80, disodium edetate, water for injections q.s.

Pharmaceutical advice

Caution with Reactine as it may interfere with analytical tests.

Remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting, as it alters the colour of soft contact lenses.

Each container should only be used by a single patient and the medicine should be discarded at the end of treatment, even if the contents are not completely used up.
