NUK First Choice Teat

The NUK Air system minimises the risk of painful colic that occurs when the baby swallows air.

The parts that make up a soother are:

  • Teat, which is the flexible part and intended to be inserted into the mouth.
  • Disk, or protective shield for the soother, which is the structure at the back of the teat, and must be large enough to reduce the likelihood of the soother getting into the child's mouth and thus prevent it from being swallowed.
  • Ring, or device to facilitate the handling of the soother. It may be integrated into the disc or be a separate element, attached to the disc or to the obturator.
  • Shutter, fixes the teat to the disc and is located inside the neck of the teat.
  • Obturator cover, prevents open access to the obturator.

Recommendations for use

- Use should not begin before 15 days of age, until breastfeeding is well established, and should be discontinued before one year of age.

- It is recommended that use be restricted from 8 months and discontinued at one year of age. However, although dummy use decreases with age, around 15-20% of children continue to use it at 3 years of age.

- The soother can be used to soothe the infant, but should not be used every time the infant cries and should be removed after about 10 minutes.

- Special care must be taken with the state of conservation and hygiene, sterilising them periodically and renewing them when the teat is deformed, the material is sticky or cracks appear.

- Do not impregnate them with sweet substances, as this favours the appearance of caries.

- It is not advisable to use chains to hang the soother around the baby's neck, to avoid possible accidents. It is preferable to attach it to clothing or to the cot using approved chains and ribbons, with safety clasps.

The different teat sizes should correspond to the individual development of each child:1: 0-6 months2: 6+ months

  • S: small opening for light liquids such as breast milk, tea or water.
  • M: medium hole for milk
  • L: large orifice for thicker foods.

Precautions and Warnings

WARNINGS for baby's safety:

- Never attach ribbons or strings to the soother, your baby could strangle on them.

- Carefully inspect the soother, especially when the child has teeth. Pull the soother in all directions. Discard the soother at the first signs of deterioration or brittleness. "Do not leave the soother in direct sunlight or near a heat source, or in contact with a disinfectant (sterilising solution) for longer than recommended, as this may damage the teat. Keep the detachable teat shield out of reach of children to prevent choking. Before the first use, keep the soother in boiling water for 5 minutes, let it cool, and remove all the water from the soother. This is for hygienic reasons - Clean before each use.

- Never dip the teat in sweet substances, as this could cause tooth decay in the child, or medicines.

- Change the soother after one or two months of use, for safety and hygiene reasons.

- If the soother becomes lodged in the baby's mouth, DO NOT LET YOUR BABY CHOK, the design of this soother prevents your baby from choking. Remove the soother from the mouth carefully, as gently as possible.
