INFO AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Why valerian and lemon balm?

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a herbaceous plant with white to pink flowers that grows in Europe and parts of Asia. Valerian root has been used for centuries to help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and for its contribution to normal psychological function.

The root extract contains valepotriates, baldrinal, essential oils and terpenes such as valerenic acid. Although all components contribute to its effect, valerenic acid contributes the most. Valerian root has virtually no side effects, which is why it is still widely used today as a natural solution to support normal psychological function and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.

Melissa officinalis, "melissa" in English, is native to Europe, North Africa and Asia. The plant has a fresh lemon scent and is therefore used for infusions, but also for flavouring dishes. Traditionally, lemon balm was already used more than 2,000 years ago by the Greeks and Romans, and from there its use spread throughout Europe.

In addition to its pleasant taste, lemon balm also has a number of health benefits. For example, it contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative damage and to normal psychological function.* In addition, like valerian, lemon balm contributes to reducing the time it takes to fall asleep and to normal psychological function * This effect is attributed in particular to its most important constituent, rosmarinic acid. Lemon balm also contains other flavonoids, terpenes (such as citronella and citral), essential oils and polyphenols.

Valerian and lemon balm potentiate each other, making them synergists. Synergistic nutrients and herbs have the advantage of working better together than alone, in a kind of cooperation. This means that the combination of Valeriana officinalis and Melissa officinalis contributes to a reduction in the time it takes to fall asleep and to normal psychological function.
