Aloe vera is a plant with an African origin, although nowadays many people have this plant at home. The reason? The many properties, uses and benefits of aloe vera.

In ancient times, aloe vera was already used by different civilisations from both the Far East and the Mediterranean, such as the Greek and Egyptian civilisations. 99% of the aloe gel from this plant is made up of water and its pH is 4.5, the same as the skin.

These properties of aloe vera make it a perfect ally for fighting skin problems.

Aloe vera, how is it produced?

Aloe vera can be produced in two types of substances:

  • The gel, which is obtained from the heart of the leaves or the pulp.
  • The latex, which comes from the sap found in the bark. Excess latex consumption can cause stomach poisoning.

Uses and benefits of aloe vera

The aloe vera plant offers a wide variety and number of benefits for use:

  • Moisturises the hair, thanks to the fact that, as we mentioned earlier, this plant is made up of 99% water. Shampoos and masks with aloe vera are ideal for people with dry or oily hair. In addition, this plant supports the stimulation of blood circulation in the scalp and, therefore, hair growth.
  • Works as a digestive anti-inflammatory against heartburn and intestinal pain. It also limits the development of viruses in the digestive system thanks to its antiseptic properties and fights constipation.
  • Relieves itching caused by insect bites.
  • Regenerates the skin. Aloe vera accelerates the healing process and eliminates acne.
  • Fights diabetes, because this plant contributes to the creation of insulin in the body and lowers blood glucose levels.
  • Regulates sebum production in the skin, so its use is ideal for dry or oily skin.
  • Combats the discomfort of eczema and psoriasis, with the help of its soothing property.
  • Heals ulcers. This plant helps cell regeneration thanks to a substance it contains, aloelucin.
  • Combats all types of burns and dermatitis.
  • Has antibacterial properties, which help eliminate bacterial plaque in our mouth. There are several mouthwashes that contain aloe vera and can be used for this function.
  • Contributes to the elimination of genital herpes.
