That is why it is very common for babies to suffer nasal congestion. How can these symptoms be tackled? We explain it in today’s post. Keep reading!

Nasal congestion is normal in babies, even more so during cold periods. However, the reason is not always excess mucus; it can also occur when there is inflammation in the nasal tissue.

Mums and dads, we know that you may feel frustrated and helpless in this situation when you see your little one having a hard time. But... do not panic! In this post we will explain the most frequent questions and give you the best tips to end nasal congestion in babies.

Causes of infant nasal congestion

The most common causes of nasal congestion in babies are:

  • Flu or cold.
  • Strong temperature changes.
  • Very dry environments.
  • Environmental pollution.

And among its main symptoms are sore throat, sleep disturbances, insomnia, excessive tearing, allergies, infections, pneumonia or difficulties breathing and feeding.

And now the million-dollar question: what should be done to combat these symptoms? And to end my baby’s congestion? Keep reading, because we explain it below.

Tips to combat your baby’s nasal congestion

From Farmaciasdirect, we recommend that, if your little one has nasal congestion and difficulty breathing, you bear in mind the following keys, which we are sure will help their wellbeing:

  • Baby’s position: it is advisable to place the baby on their side and keep the head inclined (we can put a towel under their head and neck), in order to prevent nasal mucus from passing into the ear and causing otitis.
  • Steam bath: during the bath, it is advisable for the baby to breathe in the water vapour to remove any blockage in their nostrils. Another option would be to place a humidifier in the room where the baby sleeps so that the nasal mucus is secreted while they rest.

Physiological serum, spray and saline solutions: as I mentioned in the video, Rhinomer is a great option. Why? Because its seawater-based formula will help decongest their nostrils and help the baby breathe better.

Nasal aspirator: it can be combined with the use of physiological serum and spray, although it should not be used excessively, as it can cause irritation, bleeding and may even favour nasal congestion.

Our recommendation? Do not use it more than 2 times a day.

Hydration:drinking plenty of water will help make mucus more liquid and, consequently, there will be more moisture in the baby’s nose. We are lowering mask prices!
