Toothpaste with or without fluoride

You have probably wondered at some point whether toothpaste with fluoride or without fluoride is better. It is a question many people still have not resolved, but one that many ask themselves when choosing it. It has benefits, but if overused it can also be harmful. Today we tell you everything!

At present there are people both for and against fluoride toothpaste. But from Farmaciasdirect, we want to clarify that both sides are right. Using fluoride in toothpaste is not directly harmful, as long as it is not abused.

It is true that there are situations where you may need this component because your doctor has considered its use appropriate for a specific case.

It is therefore advisable to be aware of all this and, as many scientists say,"the benefit of fluoride is greater than the possible harm of excessive consumption".

A small amount of fluoride is good for preventing cavities, but if consumed excessively it can cause some conditions.

So we want to make it clear that, first of all, you should ask your doctor what is most suitable for you, because if fluoride is necessary in a specific case, it does not increase the risk to your health.

As for younger children, the best approach is not to use fluoride toothpaste at least before the age of six, as when brushing they may swallow the toothpaste and water instead of spitting it out.

There are already other alternatives you can introduce into your oral care routine, such as natural oral hygiene products. Some of them are:

  • Clay toothpaste. It is free from fluoride and glycerine, and also contains no artificial colourings.
  • It is a popular ally instead of using toothpaste. Its function is simple: just wet your toothbrush, dip it in bicarbonate of soda and brush as usual.
  • Sea salt. It is the most natural way to brush your teeth and is used in the same way as bicarbonate. However, it is also recommended to dissolve it well in water beforehand and then wet the brush.
  • Coconut oil. It has very beneficial properties for achieving proper oral cleaning. It can be used alone or combined with other ingredients such as bicarbonate of soda.

We know this topic is somewhat delicate because, in the end, everyone has their own opinion about these types of products.

We hope we have helped clear up your doubts and remind you that, if you have any problem or uncertainty, you should ask your doctor or even our pharmacists.

They will be completely available to you! Another common question is how to brush correctly. Do not miss our next post, where we answer that existential doubt!
