Tips for enjoying the snow

Yes, we know that the arrival of cold weather means catching colds, preferring to stay at home rather than go outside and make the most of the day, swapping ice creams for warm meals, a packet of tissues as your best friend, frozen feet and hands...

Buuuut winter and the cold also mean snow, switching off, or practising sports such as skiing, snowboarding, skating and ice hockey...

For those of you who have already kicked off the winter season, we hope you did so while always thinking about protecting your skin. And for those who are starting this weekend or have a getaway planned, pay close attention to the tips that Farmaciasdirect has prepared for you to enjoy the snow.

As you know, the skin is the organ in our body most exposed to sudden changes in temperature, whatever the season of the year. In summer, with the scorching heat, and in winter... too.

Yes, even if the thermometer is below zero, the skin still needs to be protected from the sun's rays, regardless of whether the radiation is lower. Do not be fooled by the feeling that the sun is not strong, because it is... very strong!

So here is our first tip: use sun protection. And on your lips too, because later they crack and become irritated, and we do not want to hear you say that your mouth is burning.

On to the second: wear the right clothing. Remember that you are going to the snow to do sport and enjoy yourself, so your clothes need to be comfortable, light, able to retain heat and able to expel the moisture generated by physical effort and movement.

It is allowed to look like an onion! As long as the layers go from warmer garments to less warm ones, with the outermost layer acting as a windbreaker. Gloves, hat, boots and goggles.

Accessories are always essential and, in this case, even more so. The head and feet are the areas through which most body heat is lost.

So it is important that they are thermal and quick-drying, to stop the cold from getting into your bones. As for goggles, they should have dark lenses so that the reflection of the sun and snow flurries does not damage your eyes.

Oops... we almost forgot! The helmet too. Falls are very common in snow sports and, in these cases, the head is always, always, always the most affected.

So use a helmet in your size, one that fits your head. If you crash (which we hope you do not), it will be protected. Here comes the third tip! Eat tasty, healthy food.

Low temperatures mean we use more energy than usual, so it would not hurt to make room in your backpack for food with carbohydrates and protein, such as fruit or chocolate.

And water, lots and lots of water. And here is the last of our tips for enjoying the snow to the fullest: rest. Before, during and after your trip to the snow.

We have just said it: a lot of energy is lost and, sometimes, a good diet is not enough to withstand climbs, ascents and descents in the mountains. Try to go to bed early, as you will usually have to get up early on the day of the trip.

And once you are there, stop calmly to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. Ready, steady... go!
