Body Dehydration: How to Combat It?

The importance of tackling body dehydration.

Throughout the year we must keep body dehydration under control, as the body suffers considerably from both high and low temperatures. In this case, in winter, the cold and the fact that it is harder to apply a cream when we feel cold all over means that the skin becomes dehydrated and may even crack and itch.

Cracks in the skin occur when it is very dry and tight, causing fissures or splitting. This may result from poor hydration as well as frequent washing with surfactants that dry it out. Water that is too hot also causes our skin to lose hydration more quickly. At Farmaciasdirect we would like to remind you of some moisturising products we should not forget in order to prevent body dehydration and, therefore, itching.

To cleanse our skin when it is dry, the most important thing is to use an oil-based hygiene product that maintains lipids even when rinsed with water. Balneum Plus Oleogel is formulated for the gentle cleansing of dry, itchy skin, with an intensive supply of natural lipids. It contains soya oil and avocado oil, and 3% laureth-6.5 (polidocanol), which relieves itching. In addition to cleansing, it improves the condition of dry skin, restores the skin barrier and improves hydration. It can be used every day by the whole family.

After cleansing, we need daily hydration, a supply of lipids that are retained rather than lost. Atoderm Crema de Bioderma, thanks to its restructuring and moisturising active ingredients, locks water into the upper layers of the epidermis and prevents it from evaporating, providing softness and suppleness from the very first application. It can be applied daily, and the moisturising effect is optimal when applied to slightly damp skin.

Hydration for more exposed areas: Hands and face

But sometimes it is not enough simply to moisturise the legs, abdomen or arms; exposed areas such as the face and hands are the ones that suffer the most, whether from frequent washing, exposure to low temperatures or sudden changes in temperature.

In the case of the hands, chilblains or erythema pernio are very common. A chilblain is an inflammation under the skin, accompanied by itching, pain and, above all, sensitivity to rubbing. It is mainly found on the fingers and toes, nose and ears, and is affected by low temperatures. If it is not treated properly, it can lead to blisters and eventually an ulcer.

If a person is prone to chilblains, the best preventive measure is to avoid sudden changes in temperature from cold to heat and, above all, to protect them from the cold and damp. As this is a circulatory problem, it is best to apply a cream that improves circulation and protects the affected areas. The Mahiou Cream, especially indicated for this type of lesion, activates circulation, relieving the inflammatory and congestive processes caused by cold, bruising and circulatory disorders.

It contains Vitamin F (omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids) and a base rich in lanolin and glycerine. These components promote cutaneous microcirculation and help to decongest the tissue, providing protection against rubbing, cold and damp. It can be applied several times a day until recovery.

At Farmaciasdirect we like to keep you informed about the care needed to maintain skin in perfect condition during this period of low temperatures.
