Shea Butter: Benefits for Dry, Frizzy Hair

Frizzy, brittle, dull and lifeless hair... your hair is crying out for some care. In today’s post we are going to tell you how to do it: with shea butter. In previous posts we have talked about the importance of looking after your hair, especially at times when it is more exposed to external aggressors such as warm, sunny weather. Pool chlorine, the sun’s rays and sea salt are some of the biggest enemies of our hair and can cause dullness, dehydration and split ends. That is why hair needs specific care.

Shea butter

Shea butter is a natural product extracted from the shea tree, which grows in tropical areas of Africa. Its benefits are so wide-ranging that it is not just used for hair; we also find shea butter products for the skin and for overall wellbeing.

Benefits for the hair

Soothes the scalp

Shea butter is used to relieve the itching of a dry scalp or dandruff by providing moisture from root to tip without clogging the pores. This makes it perfect for frizzy hair, colour-treated hair or hair exposed to heat.

A sealing treatment for the hair

Its moisturising qualities lock in moisture without leaving the hair greasy or heavy. It also helps protect it against changes in the weather when you are outdoors. So if your hair tends to frizz, shea butter can be the solution.

Protection against heat

Shea butter does not sit on the hair; it is absorbed without leaving a greasy feeling. It coats the hair shaft so that damage from sun and heat, which are especially common at this time of year, has less impact. For anyone who uses hairdryers or straighteners, this is worth keeping in mind.

A shield against UV rays

It is thought that shea butter has a low level of SPF, in other words, that it helps protect the hair from damage caused by ultraviolet radiation.

Softens the hair

Another of its properties is that it is perfect for softening hard, brittle hair or delicate curly hair, because, as mentioned earlier, it is an excellent moisturiser whilst still allowing the hair to feel dry and light. What is more, because shea butter is rich in vitamin A and vitamin E, it helps repair damaged hair and split ends, bringing moisture to dry, brittle hair. Do you know why? Because it hydrates, softens and conditions. On our website you can find a wide selection of haircare products such as shea butter masks and shea oils.
