How to eliminate lice?

Head lice are quite annoying and spread easily, but don't worry. In today's post we talk about how to prevent them and the products used to tackle them. Keep reading!Head lice are insects that live on the scalp. However, lice can also be present on the eyebrows and eyelashes. This type of insect can live for up to a month and nits (eggs) for up to a couple of weeks. The latter look similar to dandruff, but the difference is that nits do not fall off by themselves. Before continuing with the post, we need to make it clear that a person with head lice does not always mean someone with poor hygiene, dirty or from a lower social class. Having head lice causes quite an uncomfortable and constant itching on the scalp, but they do not cause serious side effects.

How do head lice spread?

Head lice spread very easily, especially among children aged 3 to 11. The following are the ways they spread:

  • Direct contactwith a person who has head lice.
  • Sharing hair items and accessoriesforthe hair.
  • Touching clothes and fabrics wherethese insects are living.

Tips to prevent the spread of head lice

Although the best way to prevent head lice is to check the head (at least once a week), here are a series of tips to follow that may be very helpful:

  • Do not share combs, brushes or hair accessories(hair bands, headbands, bows, hats...). It is vitally important that these items are disinfected regularly with hot water and soap. Another ideal product for cleaning is vinegar.
  • Avoid head-to-head contact(hair to hair).
  • Do not sleep at someone else's house. If we know of a head lice outbreak among our contacts, we do not recommend staying overnight in their home, as towels, bedding, pillowcases or cushions are places where lice may live in order to survive. Therefore, it is better to wait up to 2 days (48 hours) after starting an anti-lice treatment.
