The perfect depigmenting routine for summer

Dark spots are one of the skincare concerns that most often worry people, especially in summer. That is why we are going to show you the steps to achieve a good anti-dark spot skincare routine in summer.

The best anti-dark spot routine for summer

Summer is the time of year when concern about dark spots increases the most, because the sun is one of the main triggers of hyperpigmentation. Even though it is true that this is not the best time to start a strong depigmenting treatment, we should not forget that we can still adapt our facial skincare routine for skin prone to dark spots during these months of more intense sun exposure.

That is why we are sharing one of the best routines for treating hyperpigmentation issues this summer. These are the steps to achieve a good depigmenting routine in summer:

Step 1: Cleansing

This is one of the basic steps in any routine. We should not underestimate its importance, as we can enhance the effect of the treatment we apply afterwards if we choose a cleanser suited to the needs of this skin type. We advise using cleansers that, besides having strong cleansing power, contain active ingredients that remove the most superficial layers and have an exfoliating action to improve radiance and, so to speak, clear the way for the anti-dark spot treatment applied afterwards.

One cleansing gel that contains acids such as glycolic, lactic or the thiamidol complex is the Eucerin Anti-Pigment Cleansing Gel, one of our favourites.

Step 2: Treatment

Here, you should adapt the product both to your needs and to your skin type. For example, Eucerin Anti-Pigment Dual Serum. This is a serum that can be used both in winter and summer, as well as in both the daytime and evening routine. Its depigmenting action comes from its star ingredient, Thiamidol. It helps reduce melanin production, while also improving radiance, evening out skin tone and providing hydration thanks to hyaluronic acid.

Step 3: Sun protection

We need to be very consistent with this final step if we really want to improve facial hyperpigmentation. On our website, we have a wide range of facial sunscreens for skin with dark spots. These are our favourites:

  • Heliocare Pigment Solution Fluid SPF50+: formulated to prevent and help correct sun-induced dark spots. Suitable for all skin types, it protects against UVB, UVA, visible light, infrared and blue light. It also contains nude pigments to even out the complexion as soon as it is applied, adapting to different skin tones.
  • Eucerin Pigment Control Fluid SPF50+: in addition to UVB, UVA, HEVL and blue-light filters, its formula contains licochalcone A and glycyrrhetinic acid for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action, as well as thiamidol to support and enhance depigmenting treatment while protecting against solar radiation.
  • Avene Anti-Dark Spot Fluid SPF50+: this fluid provides high protection thanks to a patented filter from the brand called TriAsorB, an ultra-broad-spectrum organic filter that protects against UVA, UVB and blue light. It also helps even out the complexion with a very light coverage that gives instant radiance and hydration.
  • Avene Sun Stick: this product is another of our star recommendations. Not only because of the protection it offers against different types of radiation, but also because it is so convenient to carry in your bag and reapply throughout the day. It can even be used on the most sensitive areas or on areas with dark spots, including the upper lip if you have melasma, the forehead or even the eye contour and eyelids, which are more sensitive areas that we often forget.

Tips for an effective anti-dark spot routine

  1. Use effective products and use them correctly.
  2. The key is consistency, whether it is a morning-and-evening treatment or one that needs to be used for several consecutive months.
  3. Apply sun protection every day to prevent new dark spots from appearing.
  4. Reapply sunscreen throughout the day, for example with specific photoprotectors designed to make this easier, such as sprays or the stick I mentioned earlier.
  5. Avoid exposing hyperpigmented areas to direct sunlight, by using caps, hats, staying in the shade or under an umbrella.

We need to bear in mind that every skin type is unique and there are different causes of dark spots, as well as different approaches and products. If you are unsure which option would be best for your case, you can write to us directly via our pharmaceutical advice service so that we can advise you in a personalised way.

And remember, we also have a depigmenting routine for after summer ready for you.
