Follow our perfect summer beauty routine

Summer challenges our skin every single day: sun, beach, heat, changes in our routine and even in the way we eat. All of this affects the skin and creates imbalances that need to be corrected. That is why at Farmaciasdirect we are sharing the best summer skincare routine, built around 3 simple steps. Keep reading.

Common skin concerns in summer

During summer, our skin is exposed to several challenges on a daily basis:

  • High temperatures make the skin more prone to dehydration. Sweating to regulate body temperature can also leave pores feeling dirtier and more congested.
  • At this time of year, the skin tends to produce more sebum to compensate for dehydration.
  • Chlorine, salt and sun exposure can all disrupt the skin barrier.
  • Changes in diet and in our daily rhythm can also alter the way our skin behaves.

Even though the skin changes during summer, what really matters is that it develops different needs. That is why it is important to make a few adjustments to your skincare routine so that it gives your skin exactly what it needs.

The best beauty routine for summer

Step 1: Cleansing

Because the skin produces more oil in summer, we sweat more and we often become less consistent with our routine, cleansing becomes an essential first step for maintaining healthy skin. We recommend choosing a gentle cleanser that can remove impurities deeply while also hydrating the skin.

In this case, Eucerin DermatoClean [Hyaluron] Cleansing Gel can be a great ally. It is a daily cleansing gel that removes even make-up effectively. Its formula also contains hyaluronic acid, so it helps hydrate the skin while cleansing.

Remember to cleanse the skin twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, to remove traces of sebum, sweat, cosmetic products and any other particles effectively.

Step 2: Hydration

As we have seen, when it is hot we sweat to regulate body temperature. As water is lost, the skin becomes dehydrated. This leads to an imbalance in the skin barrier and, if not corrected, redness, itching, irritation, tightness or flaking may appear.

To rebalance the skin barrier, we need to replenish water. That is why a summer routine should include a product such as Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster. Its formula contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, which means:

  • It hydrates immediately, both on the surface and deeper down.
  • It supports collagen synthesis for plumper, smoother and juicier-looking skin.
  • It helps soften wrinkles and smooth expression lines.

It also contains glycerin for an extra boost of hydration. It is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin, and can be used morning and night after cleansing.

Step 3: Sun protection

Sun exposure is the main risk factor for skin cancer, premature skin ageing, dark spots and the worsening of many skin conditions. That is why at Farmaciasdirect we always insist that sunscreen is non-negotiable and must be applied every day:

  • Whenever you leave the house, even if you are only outside for 10 minutes.
  • When doing outdoor exercise or spending time near a window.
  • When driving, flying or travelling by any other means of transport.
  • When you spend time beside a window, whether at home or at work.
  • Whatever the weather, protecting yourself from the sun is important. On cloudy days you can still burn very easily.

It is worth paying close attention to the sunscreen you choose, because a sun cream is both a health and a beauty product. So when choosing one, we should look at:

  • Its protection factor should be SPF 50+.
  • It should offer broad-spectrum protection against different types of radiation.
  • It should have the right cosmetic feel for your skin type, your needs and your goals. That includes choosing the texture you enjoy and any extra benefits you want, such as anti-ageing, hydrating, anti-dark-spot or anti-acne care.
  • If you have sensitive skin, mineral filters may help avoid possible reactions.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, both chemical and mineral filters may be used.
  • Adults can use children's sunscreens, but children should not use adult sunscreens, as their skin is more sensitive and still developing.
  • Babies should use mineral filters and sun exposure should be kept to a minimum, especially during the first 3 months of life.
  • We should use different sunscreens for the face and the body. Applying a body sunscreen on the face may leave the skin greasy and can even contribute to breakouts.

One sunscreen we love recommending is Eucerin Hydro Protect Ultra-Light Fluid SPF50+, because it ticks all the boxes above. Its standout feature is that it contains glycyrrhetinic acid, an active ingredient that helps activate DNA repair mechanisms against sun damage. The formula is completed with hyaluronic acid to add hydration. It has a beautiful texture, feels very comfortable and absorbs brilliantly. It is suitable for all skin types.

Remember that, for topical sunscreen to work properly, we need to:

  • Choose the right sunscreen for our skin's needs.
  • Apply the correct amount.
  • Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or heavy sweating.

For more complete and effective sun protection, we also recommend combining topical sunscreen with oral photoprotection in the form of food supplements.

And with those steps, you have a great summer beauty routine. If you have any questions, you can always speak to our team of pharmacists.
