Acne marks: how can you get rid of them?

Hormonal changes, reactions to certain cosmetics or medicines, poor cleansing, pregnancy or too much sun can all be behind the appearance of spots and pimples and, as a result, acne marks. Not sure how to get rid of them? We explain it in today’s post.

Without a doubt, one of the questions you ask us most often is how to get rid of acne marks. Now that you have finally managed to get rid of those spots, it is time for the second stage: tackling the little marks and skin blemishes they leave behind.

With so many sebum-regulating treatments that remove blackheads, improve skin texture and fight the appearance and recurrence of breakouts, it can be hard to know which one to choose. Do not worry, we are going to tell you which products work best to help checkmate acne and the marks it leaves behind.

Acne marks

For anyone who has acne marks and is not really sure why they are there or how they appeared, pay attention. They tend to appear once the spots themselves have cleared, when the inflammation starts to go down, and they usually look brown or red.

What causes them? Skin pigmentation. And now the big question: why does the appearance of acne marks vary from person to person? Very simple: it depends on skin tone and melanin production.

Melanin is what helps tan the skin as a defence mechanism against solar radiation. So what happens with spot marks? That area of skin is already damaged, which means melanin tends to accumulate there more than in the rest of the face.

That is why marks appear, and why they are often more noticeable in people with darker skin, because the pigmentation is deeper than in fairer skin tones.

How do I get rid of acne marks?

There are many treatments that help fade and reduce acne marks by exfoliating and helping to even out pigmentation. Want to know which ones? Keep reading.

La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Serum 30 ml

Without a doubt, this serum is one of our star products for tackling skin marks and blemishes, thanks to its formula with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5, which helps improve firmness, radiance and hydration.

As well as helping to reduce imperfections caused by spots, it also fights the signs of ageing, such as the appearance of wrinkles and loss of firmness.

Neostrata Refine Salicylic Gel Forte 100 ml

Anyone who says miracle products do not exist clearly has not tried this Neostrata gel. Formulated with salicylic acid and glycolic acid, it helps reduce the appearance and recurrence of marks and regulates excess sebum in oily or combination skin with an acne-prone tendency.

Best of all? It is not just suitable for the face, but also for other areas of the body that are prone to breakouts, such as the back.

It can also be used as part of the routine after intensive treatment programmes.

Neostrata Home Peeling System

My colleague Mercedes has already spoken about this peeling in a video, but for anyone who missed it, here is why it is another must-have treatment for tackling acne marks.

It deeply renews the skin, giving it instant softness and radiance when the skin has been affected by spot marks, pigmentation marks and similar concerns. Best of all? It is an at-home peeling, meaning you can use it yourself in just two steps.
