What Dormidine is and what it is used for

Dormidina 25 mg is a medicine for the symptomatic treatment of occasional insomnia in adults. It is used to help people fall asleep in cases of occasional difficulty falling asleep, although Dormidina sleeping tablets are not indicated for the symptomatic treatment of occasional insomnia.

What is in Dormidine?

The active ingredient in Dormidina is doxylamine, a first-generation antihistamine with a sedative action, which is why it is used for the symptomatic treatment of occasional insomnia in adults.

Is Dormidine natural?

No, Dormidine is a medicine formulated with doxylamine hydrogen succinate, so it is not a natural medicine.

How long does Dormidine take to work?

The effect of Dormidine begins approximately 30 minutes after administration. The maximum peak is reached between 1 and 3 hours after taking it. The duration of the sedative effects is usually 6 to 8 hours, although this may vary from person to person.

Who is Dormidine 25 mg recommended for?

It is intended for use in adults over 18 years of age who suffer from occasional insomnia.

How to take Dormidina

Take 1 Dormidina tablet a day (equivalent to 25 mg of doxylamine), preferably 30 minutes before going to bed. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

In case of daytime sleepiness, it is recommended to reduce the dose of Dormidine to 12.5 mg or to advance the dose. Patients with liver or kidney disease should take a lower dose of this medicine.

How much Dormidine can I take? The duration of treatment with Dormidine for sleep should be as short as possible (between 1 and 7 days), not exceeding one week's use, unless recommended by a doctor.

Contraindications for Dormidine 25 mg

Do not take Dormidine doxylamine

  • If you are under 18 years of age.
  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you are allergic to other antihistamines.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Dormidine and pregnancy: According to the package leaflet, Dormidine is not recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding, due to a lack of data on its safety. Doxylamine is an active substance that crosses the placenta, so the risk of adverse effects on the foetus cannot be ruled out.

Dormidine and alcohol: The combination of dormidine and alcohol may unpredictably potentiate the sedative effects of both, increasing the risk of severe drowsiness, dizziness, dullness, impaired concentration and coordination, and even respiratory depression in severe cases, and may be particularly dangerous when performing activities requiring attention, such as driving or operating machinery.

Dormidine: side effects

Dormidine 25 mg may cause side effects, as is the case with other medicines. In this case, the following have been observed:

  • Frequent: drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention, increased bronchial secretion, vertigo, dizziness, headache, pain in the upper abdomen, fatigue, insomnia and nervousness.
  • Rare:tiredness, swelling of arms and legs, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash, ringing in the ears, orthostatic hypotension, double vision, stomach disturbances, relaxation, nightmares and difficulty breathing.
  • Rare: agitation, tremor, convulsions or blood problems such as haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia or agranulocytosis.
  • Frequency not known: general malaise.

Dormidine: long-term side effects

Prolonged use of Dormidine (doxylamine) is not recommended without medical supervision because of the risks and long-term side effects. Among the most common are daytime drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue and urinary retention, which may be aggravated by continued use.

Is it bad to take Dormidine doxylamine?

The non-prescription medicine Dormidine is not harmful if used correctly and under medical supervision, although, as with any other medicine, it can cause adverse effects such as those mentioned above, especially at the start of treatment.
