What are nasal decongestants and what are they for?
Nasal decongestants are used to relieve the discomfort of a cold by relieving sinus inflammation. However, they have no effect on sneezing, itching or runny nose.
They are usually available in different formats. The most prominent are:
- Topical formulations: creams, drops and nebulisers.
- Oral formulations, including two different types of drugs: those containing phenylephrine and those containing oxymetazoline.
