How Royal Jelly Helps Defences

Royal jelly and defences are an interesting pairing at certain times of the year. Worker bees produce this sticky yellowish substance to feed their larvae and the queen bee. However, this jewel of nature has shown over the years that it has properties and benefits for humans. Today we look at how royal jelly helps defences.

What is royal jelly?

For queen bees, royal jelly is a kind of superfood that allows them to live for up to 5 years. In contrast, drones, which do not consume it, only live for around 45 days. On the other hand, royal jelly makes queens 40% larger, more fertile and equipped with strong defences. With so many benefits, it is only natural to wonder what it is made of. Let’s take a look:

  • Water at 67%.
  • Antioxidant minerals such as zinc, copper, iron and calcium, which regulate the immune system, oxygenate the tissues and improve circulation.
  • Amino acids (cysteine, lysine and aspartic acid) that we do not obtain through diet.
  • B vitamins (folic acid, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, niacin, riboflavin and thiamine), which are involved in different metabolic processes and strengthen the nervous system, nails and hair.

Despite all its benefits, it provides between 5 and 6% of simple sugars and fats (lipids). This makes many people wary of consuming royal jelly; however, it still provides healthy calories, with long-chain, unsaturated and neutral fatty acids.

How does royal jelly help?

In addition to the benefits of royal jelly and defences that we have already mentioned, it also contributes to our wellbeing in other ways.

Tiredness

There are many reasons why we may feel exhausted: heavy study workloads, work, stress, lack of sleep, a poor diet, etc. These circumstances weaken our immune system and, as a result, make us feel tired.

Using royal jelly is a good idea, as it is an energy-boosting restorative that helps restore vitality and energy. It is also perfect for helping us cope with daily stress. It has adaptogenic properties, so it is useful in cases of physical and mental exhaustion, but also when we lose energy due to stress or illness.

Poor appetite

Another property of royal jelly is that it increases appetite. That is why it is often recommended for people recovering from surgery or with eating problems such as anorexia.

On the other hand, for those following a plan to eat less, a food supplement of this kind would be counterproductive. However, it is worth including in older people and in cases of malnutrition. Taking royal jelly and the defences it provides is ideal for complementing diets that are not balanced and healthy.

Seasonal changes

When the seasons change, royal jelly and defences always go hand in hand. In both spring and autumn, we experience seasonal change. This causes apathy, drowsiness, irritability, stress and greater tiredness than usual. Taking this supplement helps stimulate the immune system and increase energy.

Fighting colds

The relationship between royal jelly and defences reaches its full potential here because of the benefits it brings to our health. For example, it increases antibody levels in the body and other molecules involved in the immune system. It raises the presence of Gamma Interferon, interleukins (IL-2 and IL-10) and T lymphocytes, so it helps strengthen us against colds. Likewise, we should not forget that it has a bacteriostatic and antiseptic action and can be applied topically to cuts, burns and wounds.

In short, using royal jelly is a wise choice, as it reduces the intensity and duration of colds, flu and allergic reactions.

Frayed nerves

The vitamin B content provided by royal jelly helps prevent emotional disturbances in those who consume it, as it balances the nervous system. It acts like a balm that relieves stress, balances emotions and promotes rest; in other words, it is a kind of natural anxiolytic. For this reason, it is used in cases of depression, insomnia, stress and nervousness.

Skin problems

Royal jelly provides vitamins C and E. As a result, it has strong antioxidant capacity and can combat wrinkles and premature skin ageing. It also improves hydration and elasticity, which slows down cellular ageing.

In the same way, it strengthens the skin’s defences against bacteria that cause infections or allergies. This is due to its ability to regenerate connective fibres such as collagen and elastin.

Even so, it should be borne in mind that, if it is used topically on oily skin, the result may be unpleasant. Quite the opposite of what happens with dry skin, as it is a very emollient and nourishing substance.

Exams

Those who are studying can benefit from royal jelly because of its high B vitamin content. Thanks to it, memory and concentration will improve. That is why it is a great ally in situations where physical and mental performance needs to be at its best.

How should royal jelly be taken?

The important thing is never to exceed the recommended daily dose, otherwise we would not stimulate the immune system, but prevent it from working. For times like these, such as seasonal changes, it is advisable to choose products like these:

  • Apiserum defensas niños. This tutti frutti-flavoured formula is designed especially for children aged 4 and over. It will improve their defences and help them through periods of intense physical and mental activity.
  • Forte Pharma jalea real defensas ampollas. It is a 100% natural ampoule treatment that stimulates vitality, strengthens the immune system and rejuvenates the body.
  • Arkopharma arko real vitaminada unidosis. This food supplement is not recommended for children under 3 years old. It contains royal jelly, phosphorus and vitamins, everything needed to strengthen the immune system, support energy metabolism, improve intellectual performance and reduce tiredness and fatigue.

It is advisable to take breaks of between 2 and 3 months after a course of treatment. At Farmaciasdirect we always recommend royal jelly and strong defences during seasonal changes.
