Remedies to Combat Colds in Little Ones

Whenever winter arrives, we already know that cold season begins and that until mid or late March we have to take more care than usual. It is a reality that little ones are the most sensitive to suffering these illnesses. That is why today we want to share a series of everyday tips to help prevent them.

To understand each other a little better, we can call a cold a 'catarrh' that leads to nasal obstruction, cough or increased mucus. A real nuisance, right?

To combat a cold, we bring you a few remedies for little ones, who are usually the ones who have the hardest time in these cases. Babies and children up to 3 or 4 years old are the most susceptible to catching a cold.

When we say they are the most sensitive, it is because of the continuous contact they have with each other, whether at school, nursery or even playing with friends in a park. Ultimately, they are still growing and their body is not fully strengthened, making it easier for viruses to affect them.

How can you help prevent this? First of all, teach them the importance of washing their hands frequently. A fun way to do this is by letting them choose their favourite soap (smell, colour...) so they do not associate it with an obligation.

To combat nasal congestion, steam baths and nasal washes once or twice a day are highly advisable to relieve that blocked mucus that may bother your child. There is also the option of making homemade seawater to clean the nostrils, and it is very easy to do.

You only need one litre of water, a spoonful of salt and bicarbonate, and stir so everything dissolves properly. Drinking plenty of water is also essential to make mucus more fluid and make it easier to expel. Hydration must be indispensable in this type of situation.

For coughs, the most common and effective thing is a good glass of milk with honey and a splash of lemon, at a warm temperature, to relieve that bodily discomfort and leave them relaxed before sleeping.

A homemade broth is also a good option to relieve that persistent cough and, above all, sore throat. And do you know the popular remedy that still works today? Placing a sliced onion near the child’s cot or bed to reduce nasal congestion is very effective.

Onion is a food with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. Eating it is advisable in cases of flu and colds, as its qualities help combat all kinds of infectious illnesses. To conclude, these are some tips we suggest

From Farmaciasdirect to help you and, above all, your little ones get through this rather unpleasant season. So do not despair, there is a solution!

And now, we invite you to tell us which home remedies you use to combat colds in little ones and relieve these symptoms. Which ones are most useful for you?
