How to treat dry eyes?

Hours spent working in front of a screen, overusing your mobile phone or watching television are some of the causes that may be behind problems such as tired eyes or dry eyes. Not sure what to do to tackle this discomfort? We explain everything in this post! The dry eye syndrome or dry eyes is characterised by a lack of lubrication in the eye, which leads to discomfort such as a gritty sensation, itching, burning or pain. To avoid this, there are a series of habits we can change, such as reducing the use of electronic devices (mobile phone, computer or tablet) and following a daily cleansing routine. However, electronic screens are not the only cause of dry eyes. Not producing enough tears, or producing tears of inadequate quality, continued use of heating, especially in enclosed spaces, or air pollution caused by tobacco smoke and transport are also closely linked to dry eye syndrome.

Tips for treating dry eyes

Some of our recommendations for relieving symptoms and looking after eye health are:

  • Apply artificial tears that deeply hydrate and relieve the itching caused by dry eyes. They soothe immediately, can be applied several times a day, and come in different types and formats.
  • Avoid spending too much time in enclosed spaces with poor ventilation where there is tobacco smoke or the heating is on, as this can cause irritation.
  • Use humidifiers.Especially during times when air conditioning or heating is in use, as this can cause greater dryness in the eyes.
  • Take food supplements rich in vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids. These active ingredients have soothing properties and may also help support normal eye function.
  • Eye cleansing routine.Your eyes also need specific care and cleansing to remove the oil that builds up in the glands of the eyelids and traces of dirt, which can not only relieve symptoms but also improve tear quality, as mentioned earlier.

Which products should you use for dry eyes?

When choosing the right product to relieve the symptoms and discomfort caused by dry eyes, it is important to consider factors such as the formulation, how it is used and, most importantly, that it is designed to provide deep hydration. There are also different types and formats such as single-dose drops, capsules or eye drops, which suit every type of need, for example:

  • Hyabak Cuidado Ocular Diario en Gotas: this eye drop, formulated with hyaluronic acid, hydrates, provides immediate relief and offers comfort throughout the day. It is also suitable for use with contact lenses and can be applied as often as needed during the day.
  • Retilut Complemento Alimenticio en Cápsulas: rich in fatty acids, vitamins C, D and E, and lutein, this food supplement contributes to the maintenance of vision. As for directions, simply take one capsule a day with a meal.
  • Systane Ultra UD Gotas Oftálmicas en Monodosis: a daily-use treatment that soothes symptoms caused by dry eyes and helps lubricate soft contact lenses. The best part? Its single-dose format makes it convenient and practical to take anywhere.
  • Artelac Complete Multidosis: this eye drop offers long-lasting moisturisation and instant relief, thanks to its hydrating and soothing formula.
