Orthodontic wax is applied on the different orthodontic appliances that protrude from the teeth (brackets, archwires or metal bands) and that, therefore, can cause injuries by rubbing against the tongue or the inside of the cheeks.

The wax acts by creating a thin protective layer that prevents injuries from occurring.
