It must not be used in children under 6 years of age. How should Vicks VapoRub Ointment, 35 grams, be used? VapoRub ointment has two different uses. It can be applied three times a day to the chest, neck and back. It can also be used for inhalation by adding the recommended amount of product to hot water and breathing in the vapours for 10–15 minutes. Always follow the instructions in the leaflet. Contraindications Do not use Vicks VapoRub if you are allergic or hypersensitive to its active ingredients or any of its excipients. It must not be swallowed or applied to wounds or broken skin. Side effects Like all medicines,VapoRub can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. These may include eye irritation, redness, skin irritation, dermatitis or burns. Precautions Take particular care when using VapoRub if you are hypersensitive to perfumes or solvents, or if you suffer or have suffered from convulsions, epilepsy, bronchial asthma or other respiratory conditions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Composition of Vicks VapoRub Ointment, 35 grams Each gram of Vicks VapoRub ointment contains: 50 mg of camphor, 50 mg of turpentine oil, 27.5 mg of menthol, 15 mg of eucalyptus oil and 2.5 mg of thymol. The excipients are cedar oil and petroleum jelly. Pharmacist’s advice When applying VapoRub topically, avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. It is recommended to wear loose-fitting clothing to facilitate the release of vapours. If symptoms persist after 7 days, worsen or do not improve, consult a doctor.
