Tosystop 20 Mg Oral Solution, 12 sachets

Tosystop is a medicine used to improve cough in cases of dry or irritable cough. It is recommended for coughs that are not accompanied by mucus.

It is indicated for adults and children over 12 years of age who have a dry cough without mucus.

This medicine is a syrup to be taken orally. The dosage is one sachet every 4 or 6 hours depending on the need or intensity of the cough. Never take more than 6 sachets a day. It is an oral solution, so the contents can be poured directly into the mouth without the need for water. It can also be taken dissolved in water. It can be taken with food or on an empty stomach.

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to dextromethorphan or any of the other ingredients of this medicinal product (listed in section 6).
• Children under 12 years of age should not take this medicine.
• If you have severe lung disease.
• If you have an asthmatic cough.
• If you have a cough with a lot of secretions.
• If you are taking or have taken within the last 2 weeks a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicine used for the treatment of depression, Parkinson's disease or other diseases, as well as other medicines that inhibit the reuptake of monoamine oxidase (MAOI). as well as other serotonin reuptake inhibitor medicines used for the treatment of depression such as fluoxetine and paroxetine; or with bupropion, which is a medicine used for smoking cessation, or linezolid, which is an antibacterial medicine (see section: Use of other medicines).

In some cases, Tosystop may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, constipation, gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea or vomiting. In more rare cases it may cause mental confusion or headache.

You should consult your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking Tosysptop if you are a patient:

• with a persistent or chronic cough, such as that due to smoking. Especially in children, chronic cough could be an early symptom of asthma.
• with liver disease
• with atopic dermatitis (inflammatory skin disease characterised by erythema, itching, oozing, crusting and scaling, starting in childhood in individuals with hereditary allergic predisposition).
• you are sedated, debilitated or bedridden
• If you are taking other medicines such as antidepressants or antipsychotics, Tosysptop may interact with these medicines and you may experience changes in your mental state (e.g. agitation, hallucinations, coma) and other effects such as body temperature above 38°C, increased heart rate, high blood pressure and exaggerated reflexes, muscle stiffness, lack of coordination and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (eg, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea).
