For which scalp conditions is Tarmed indicated? Tarmed shampoo is intended for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over who have scalp conditions accompanied by flaking and itching. It can be used for the symptomatic relief of: Psoriasis of the scalp: helps to reduce the associated flaking and itching. Seborrhoeic dermatitis: helps to control flaking and scalp discomfort. Dandruff: helps to reduce excessive flaking. During pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding, follow the instructions in the package leaflet and consult a healthcare professional before using the medicine. It is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy. How should Tarmed Shampoo be used? Tarmed Shampoo should be applied to the scalp once or twice a week. To apply it correctly: Wet your hair and scalp first. Apply a sufficient amount of Tarmed and massage gently until it lathers. Leave the product to work for approximately 3–5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Repeat the application following the instructions in the leaflet. Rinse thoroughly once more with plenty of water. The usual duration of treatment is approximately 4 weeks. If you need to continue using it for longer, consult a doctor first. Composition of Tarmed Shampoo 150 ml The active ingredient in Tarmed is coal tar. Each gram of shampoo contains 40 mg of coal tar solution (4 per cent). The other ingredients are sodium lauryl ether sulphate 70 per cent, cocamidopropyl betaine, disodium hydrogen phosphate, citric acid monohydrate, benzyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol (PEG) 150 distearate, hexylene glycol, oleyl alcohol, polyquaternium-10, fragrance AF17050 and purified water. Contraindications and precautions for Tarmed Do not use Tarmed Shampoo: On children under 12 years of age. If you are allergic to coal tar or any of its ingredients. On active, inflamed psoriasis. On eczema with oozing. In cases of pustular psoriasis. If photosensitivity is present. On areas with inflammation of the hair follicles. On areas affected by acne vulgaris.
