No, bilastine is not a corticosteroid, but an antihistamine used mainly for the treatment of allergy symptoms, such as allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and urticaria.
One of the main advantages of bilastine is that, unlike first-generation antihistamines, it does not tend to cause drowsiness in most cases. The reason bilastine does not make you sleepy is because it does not cross the blood-brain barrier in significant amounts, reducing the possibility of affecting the central nervous system and therefore causing drowsiness.
Bilastine is a second-generation antihistamine that is not associated with weight gain. The fattening effect has been found mainly in first generation antihistamines because, by acting on the central nervous system, it may stimulate appetite.
Bilastine 20 mg is suitable for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.
The recommended dose of Bilastine Stadapharm is 1 tablet of 20 mg a day, taken with a glass of water and one hour before or two hours after eating any food.
