INFO AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SkinCeuticals Oil Shield is a sunscreen that can also minimise oil on the skin to give it a dry look. This product is made from two active ingredients: silica gel and a broad spectrum sun protection factor.

Firstly, the sun is largely responsible for skin conditions such as sunburn, premature ageing and more serious skin conditions. It has two types of radiation: UVA and UVB. UVA radiation is the most common, accounting for 95 %, but it is also responsible for directly damaging the most exposed cells. As a result, it stimulates the appearance of wrinkles in the long term. UVB radiation, on the other hand, acts to a greater extent, leaving burns. Both types can cause the skin to become blotchy.

So the SPF50 protection of this cream can help mitigate these effects to a large extent. These radiations are measured on a frequency spectrum, so the higher the SPF value, the more protected the skin can be.

Secondly, silica concentrates directly in the pores and oil of the skin. These are two very important and decisive factors in the health and appearance of the skin. This is for the following reasons:

  • The pores that our skin has serve to allow it to perspire and carry out its functions in a normal way. These pores tend to become clogged by dense skin secretions or environmental pollutants. Whatever the cause, this can lead to irritation, inflammation and even acne.
  • Excess sebum is responsible for making skin oily. Acne is likely to occur at any time on this type of skin.

So silica has the ability to absorb sebum and largely close the pores to control sebum production.
