Sandoz Care Acetylcysteine is a medicine used to relieve colds and flus involving mucus and phlegm. It works by breaking down the viscosity of the mucus to make it easier to expel, thereby freeing up the airways.

This medicine is indicated for people suffering from a respiratory condition, such as the flu, and who have breathing difficulties due to the mucus produced.

Sandoz Care acetylcysteine should be taken orally by dissolving the effervescent tablet in a glass of water, and should not be taken until the tablet has completely effervesced. • Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 patients): drowsiness, bronchospasm, respiratory distress, digestive upset.

• Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to take acetylcysteine.
• If you are asthmatic or have severe respiratory disease, you should consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
• The possible sulphurous (rotten-egg) smell of the medicine is typical of the active substance, but does not indicate that the medicine is in bad condition.
• If you experience discomfort in the stomach when taking the medicine, stop the treatment and consult a doctor. Caution is advised in patients with peptic ulcer or a history of peptic ulcer.
• During the first few days of treatment, you may notice an increase in mucus and phlegm, which will decrease during the course of treatment.

• Acetylcysteine. Each effervescent tablet contains 600 mg acetylcysteine.

The other ingredients (excipients) are: anhydrous lactose, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium saccharin dihydrate, sodium citrate, sodium carbonate anhydrous, sodium cyclamate, mannitol (E-421), ascorbic acid, blackberry flavour (contains sorbitol and mannitol (E-421)) and anhydrous citric acid.

It is advisable to drink plenty of water to facilitate the process of fluidification of the mucus viscosity and thus achieve its elimination. If symptoms last more than 5 days, a doctor should be consulted. Acetylcysteine should not be taken before going to bed, but preferably in the morning.
