Originally from Europe, mints have spread around the globe to North America, Australia and Japan. Cultivated since ancient times for their medicinal properties, they have been found in Egyptian tombs dating back to around 1000 BC. Mentha arvensis is a species of mint belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It is a herbaceous plant with an outstanding aroma, measuring 10 to 60 cm, and has whorled flowers located in the axils of the stems. The leaves are oval, pointed and toothed. This perennial plant flowers from July to September and prefers sunny places, marshes and wet meadows.
