PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

Bottles should be fitted with a volume scale in millilitres. The accuracy of the measurements marked on a bottle is extremely important: failure to maintain the proportion of water and milk powder may cause too high a load on the infant's kidney, or too much water may be given in relation to the milk actually contained in a bottle.
this happens because the bottle does not have the right scale or because the powder is added incorrectly.
REMEMBER ""Use the measure included on the powder packet or bottle, level and do not fill it up"".
Risks of bottle feeding:
1. aerophagia: During feeding, the bottle should be kept well tilted to prevent the baby from swallowing excess air which could cause severe colic pains.
2. Burns:
Sometimes, especially if the microwave is used, the body of the bottle is not heated, but the contents may be close to boiling. The temperature of the milk or formula should be checked before giving it to the baby to avoid causing burns.
3. Emotional problems:
The baby should never be deprived of the positive affective aspects of breastfeeding. For this reason, it is important that while the bottle is being given, the affectionate relationship between the parents and the newborn is strengthened with words, kisses or caresses.
4. Detachment of materials:
Due to the high temperatures to which the bottle is subjected, the detachment of materials could occur, which could obstruct the respiratory tract or the migration of toxic products. The choice of quality products guarantees safety in this respect.
5. Choking due to excessive food flow.

Always use this product under adult supervision.
Continuous and prolonged sucking of fluids can cause tooth decay.
Inspect the teat carefully before each use and pull it in all directions. Discard at the first sign of deterioration or brittleness.
Keep all components out of reach of children when not in use.
Do not leave the teat in direct contact with sunlight or other heat sources and do not leave it immersed in sterilising solution for longer than recommended. This can damage the teat.
Never use the teats as a soother.
Always check the temperature of the food before feeding.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

The term "cleaning" of children's tableware does not have the same meaning for all people, therefore, it is convenient to make a series of recommendations in order to achieve the same routine for all the people who take care of the infant.
The cleaning process should be a habit, a daily routine that should always be carried out in the same way, so that regardless of the person in charge of cleaning, the result is optimal and guarantees the asepsis of the material.

The cleaning of children's tableware is essential, because the infant's organism has a weak antigenic capacity, so that an infection, such as gastroenteritis, can have very serious consequences.
All the material that is going to be in contact with the newborn must be in optimum hygienic conditions.
- Before preparing the bottle, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and dry them with a clean towel.
- Any micro-organisms must be eliminated by boiling or using the usual sterilisers.

While the baby is being fed by its mother, hygiene vigilance is reduced to the few items that can be put in the mouth, such as fingers and dummies, but the transition to artificial feeding, especially if it is before 4 months of age, implies not only the loss of the baby's intake of food, but also the loss of the baby's own food. But switching to artificial feeding, especially if it is before 4 months of age, means not only that the immune defences contained in the mother's milk are lost, but also, and above all, that a risk factor is incorporated, because any remaining warm milk becomes a bacterial culture medium.

The routine should begin when a feeding is over: "After each feeding, the bottle should be washed with plenty of hot water, soap and a squeegee".
- A number of used and washed items (the number depends on the type of technique chosen) can be accumulated for sterilisation, usually once a day, and left to dry.
- There are different types of sterilisers on the market, based on various physical or chemical procedures, to achieve eradication of the microbial load.
In the case of heat-resistant materials, there are tablets or solutions that act cold.
There is the option of sterilisers that use the germicidal effect of boiling water vapour or that originating from various types of electrical appliances.
a) Cold sterilisation
Chemical process using the oxidising action of hypochlorous acid, in the form of a solution or tablets.
It allows the sterilisation of articles by simply placing them (bottles, teats, nipples, dummies, teething rings or toys) in a bucket with water and a chemical solution (in the form of a solution or tablets).
The sterilisation time varies, ranging from half an hour to one hour.
The solution should be renewed every 24 hours to avoid possible infections.
Sterilised items should be rinsed.
b) Heat sterilisation
Boiling water destroys pathogenic micro-organisms.
Sterilisation takes place by means of steam and lasts 10 to 20 minutes.
The bottle is filled with water up to two thirds of its volume beforehand, placing it upside down so that the hot steam can pass through more easily.

This will ensure the quality of the bottle, the quality of the sucking and the correct development of the jaw and palate.
- It is important to ensure that the flow of water, milk or food is adequate. Under no circumstances is it advisable to increase the size of the orifice, as this suppresses the sensation of tiredness (necessary for the infant's satiety) and favours the development of poor digestion, with vomiting and abdominal pain.
- Special care must be taken with the state of conservation and hygiene, sterilising them periodically and renewing them when necessary.
- The bottle should be prepared by adjusting the proportions of milk and water to the doses prescribed by the paediatrician or as specified by the manufacturer. Overly concentrated bottles can cause symptoms of dehydration and digestion problems, while overly diluted bottles do not feed adequately.
- When the contents of the bottle are not completely used up by the child, the excess should be thrown away. Milk should not be reheated or left at room temperature for more than a few minutes.
- After each feeding, the bottle should be washed immediately, as milk is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria.
