Press the on/off button next to the LCD display. A beep will sound when switched on and the display will show the last recorded temperature. Place the thermometer in the desired location (mouth, rectum or armpit): Oral use: place the thermometer under the tongue. Close the child's mouth and try to breathe evenly through the nose to avoid the measurement being influenced by inhaled / exhaled air. Normal temperature between 35.7°C and 37.3°C (96.3°F and 99.1°F) Rectal use: Lubricate the tip of the silver probe with petroleum jelly for easy insertion. Gently insert the probe approximately 1 cm (less than 1/2") into the rectum. Normal temperature between 36.2°C and 37.7°C (97.2°F and 99.9°F).
With the armpit dry, place the probe and hold the arm firmly pressed to one side. From a medical point of view, this method will always give inaccurate readings and should not be used if accurate measurements are required.
