Malassezia pachydermatis is the main pathogen responsible for dermatitis and otitis in dogs and cats; it has the ability to form biofilm, which is a major virulence factor.

Malasil, developed by König, contains silver ion (Ag+) microspheres with anti-biofilm and antimicrobial action. These penetrate the biofilm, disrupting its structure and enabling the silver ion (Ag+) to effectively attack Malassezia spp. and other pathogens.

This topical spray has been developed to treat seborrhoeic dermatitis and its complications. It is the treatment of choice for combating conditions caused by Malassezia spp. and secondary infections from other microorganisms affecting the skin and hair. MalaSIL treatment lotion contains micronised silver, which prevents biofilm formation and the adhesion of bacteria, fungi and yeasts. MalaSIL treatment lotion contains essential oils with recognised dermatological properties which, together with ichthyol and pidocanol, alleviate the most troublesome symptoms such as itching, redness and flaking of the skin, and hair loss.
