Dormigen 25 mg 14 Film-coated Tablets

It is a medicine formulated with doxylamine, an active substance with sedative properties that is normally used for the treatment of occasional insomnia.

It comes in a pack containing 14 film-coated tablets.

Suitable for use in adults over 18 years of age.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet (25 mg) a day, preferably about 30 minutes before bedtime.

Do not take more than 1 tablet daily.

Do not use Dormigen:

• In children under 18 years of age.
• If you are allergic to doxylamine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you are allergic to other antihistamines.
• If you are breast-feeding.
• If you suffer from respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic bronchitis (persistent cough producing sputum and mucus) or pulmonary emphysema (difficulty breathing).
• If you have glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).
• If you have prostatic hypertrophy (abnormal enlargement of the prostate), bladder neck blockage (urinary tract disease) or difficulty urinating.
• If you have erosion of the stomach wall or the beginning of the intestinal wall or pyloroduodenal obstruction (difficulty passing food from the stomach to the intestine).
• If you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
• If you are taking medicines such as antidepressants, certain antibiotics, medicines that affect the heart, certain antiviral drugs and drugs to treat fungal infections, some drugs that reduce the lipid (fat) content of the blood, or quinidine.
• If you have severe kidney or liver disease.

Like all medicines, Dormigen can cause side effects. This does not mean that everyone will experience side effects. In this case, the side effects of doxylamine are generally mild and transitory, being more frequent during the first days of treatment.

• Very common: drowsiness.
• Frequent: symptoms such as dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention, increased bronchial secretion, vertigo, dizziness, headache, pain in the upper abdomen, fatigue, insomnia and nervousness.
• Rare: asthenia (tiredness), peripheral oedema (swelling of arms and legs), nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash, tinnitus (noise in the ears), orthostatic hypotension (lowering of blood pressure due to a decrease in blood pressure), nausea and vomiting.(lowering of blood pressure due to changes in posture), diplopia (double vision), dyspepsia (upset stomach), feeling of relaxation, nightmares and dyspnoea (breathing difficulties).
• Rare: agitation (especially in elderly patients), tremor, convulsions or blood problems such as haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia or agranulocytosis (decrease in certain blood cells).
• Frequency not known: general malaise.

The frequency and magnitude of adverse effects may be reduced by reducing the daily dose.

The active substance in Dormigen is doxylamine. Each tablet contains 25 mg doxylamine hydrogen succinate. The other excipients are:

• Core: calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl starch type A (potato), anhydrous colloidal silica, magnesium stearate.
• Coating: hypromellose (E-464), titanium dioxide (E-171), lactose monohydrate, macrogol 4000 (E-1521).

If daytime drowsiness occurs, it is recommended to reduce the dose to 1 tablet of 12.5 mg per day or to advance the dose to ensure at least 8 hours of sleep.

Consult a doctor if symptoms do not improve or worsen after 7 days of treatment.
