What is Cinfatos 15 mg tablets and what are they used for?

It is a medicine formulated with dextromethorphan, an active substance with antitussive action that inhibits the cough reflex. It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of cough that is not accompanied by expectoration (irritative cough, nervous cough).

It comes in a pack of 20 orodispersible tablets.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.

Directions for use

Take 1 tablet (15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide) every 4 hours or 2 tablets (30 mg) every 6-8 hours depending on the intensity of the cough. Do not take more than 8 tablets (120 mg) in 24 hours. Always use the lowest dose that is effective.

Place the tablet in the mouth, allow to disperse with saliva, and swallow. It is not necessary to take with water at the time of taking. Do not take with grapefruit or bitter orange juice or alcoholic beverages.

Side effects

As with all medicines, Cinfatos 15 mg tablets may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, the following have been observed:

- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reaction including symptoms such as asthma, rash, urticaria, oedema, pruritus and cardio-respiratory distress.
- Psychiatric disorders: visual hallucinations and confusion. These effects are much more pronounced with overdose (see section If you take more Cinfatós than you should).
- Nervous system disorders: drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions and more rarely mental confusion and headache.
- Ear and labyrinth disorders: vertigo.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal discomfort such as stomach pain and constipation.
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: rash, urticaria, pruritus, erythema and allergic dermatitis.

Composition

The active substance of Cinfatos orodispersible tablets 15 mg is dextromethorphan hydrobromide. Specifically, each orodispersible tablet contains 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

- The other ingredients are: polacryline potassium, sucralose, croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, Avicel CE-15 (microcrystalline cellulose and guar gum), erythritol, orange flavouring (consisting of flavouring substances, maltodextrin derived from maize and alpha-tocopherol).z and alpha-tocopherol (E-307)), sodium stearyl fumarate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium citrate dihydrate and anhydrous colloidal silica.

Pharmaceutical advice

This medicine may be addictive. Treatment should therefore be of short duration.

It is advisable to seek medical advice if symptoms persist after 7 days.
