Contraindications Alka-Seltzer is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age. It contains citric acid in its composition, so patients with uric acid stones should be especially cautious, as calcium stones may form. As with all antacids, the absorption of the medicines may be modified. Therefore, they should be taken at least 2 hours apart. Caution also during pregnancy and breast-feeding. If you take this medicine, you should always take it under the supervision of your doctor. Side effects Like all medicines, Alka-Seltzer may cause side effects: Frequent: Hypokalaemia and hypernatraemia (increased sodium level in the blood).
