Lactoflora
These are food supplements based on lactobacilli. The human body has 100 trillion micro-organisms in the digestive tract, a figure ten times higher than the number of human cells. It is estimated that the gut flora in our digestive tract weighs approximately one kilogram. Most of these micro-organisms are bacteria, belonging to more than 400 different species, among which the so-called "good bacteria" such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium predominate.
The quantity and composition of the intestinal flora varies according to the section of the digestive tract: In the stomach is where we find the lowest number of bacteria due to the acid pH of the stomach and as we go through the intestine they increase until we reach the colon or large intestine, which is where the highest number of bacteria is concentrated.
On the other hand, vaginal flora is the group of bacteria that live naturally in the female intimate area. The presence of these bacteria, mostly Lactobacillus, has a protective function, as they produce lactic acid and other substances that maintain the vaginal pH acid, inhibiting the proliferation of pathogenic micro-organisms. When the vaginal flora becomes unbalanced, for example through the use of contraceptives, antibiotic or antifungal treatments, spermicides, excessive intimate hygiene, overly tight clothing, stress or hormonal imbalances, this can lead to discomfort and irritation, which can develop in the intimate area of the vagina.Other pathogenic micro-organisms (such as the bacteria Prevotella bivia and Gardnerella vaginalis and the fungus Candida albicans) can develop in the intimate area, which can lead to infections such as bacterial vaginosis and candidal vaginitis.
