Tips to Recover Your Figure After Christmas

Christmas is over and I do not recognise my figure

On the very Day of Reyes (Three Kings’ Day), the regret begins about all the indulgences you have allowed yourself at Christmas. We could say even before that, that between one celebration and another we are already lamenting what will become of our figure after the excesses. The dinners with colleagues, with friends, the Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve dinners, a bit of nougat or a shortbread biscuit mid-afternoon, and how could we forget our beloved Roscón de Reyes. And of course, we all set New Year’s resolutions, but when it comes to diet, until 6 January nothing happens. But it all comes, and when we return to our routine we again seriously think about the day we will start to diet a little to get back to our ideal weight. If you are in that situation, do not worry: with some tips to lose weight after the Christmas excesses you will be able to shed those extra kilos.

Above all, let us be aware of our diet

One of the most important aspects of all is that to start the diet you should eat five meals a day based on salads, vegetables, low-fat yoghurts, fat-free products, etc. With this, we will avoid snacking between meals, big food binges, and keep our body active. Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol as much as you can. Herbal teas, vegetable broths and water will help you in your goal.

Do not eat saturated fats (or avoid them as much as you can), as they accumulate directly in the body as adipose tissue and afterwards getting in shape for swimsuit season will be harder. These fats are present in industrial baked goods, the fatty part of meats, fried foods... and we know it. Along with fats, you should also be very careful with carbohydrates. It is important to consume them, but be careful because if you do not do some exercise afterwards, this food can play tricks on you and end up turning into fat accumulated in your body. Also do not forget to drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. We know that with the cold it can sometimes be harder, but it will help you eliminate toxins and keep your body well hydrated.

Physical exercise, essential

And the fact is that, in addition to taking care of your diet, it is also advisable to do some physical exercise; because no matter how much you diet, if you do not do any sport, you cannot achieve much. If this part is a little hard for you (we know the cold makes our laziness increase) you can start by changing some habits during the first weeks. Take the stairs, get off the bus one stop earlier to take a short walk (at a brisk pace) until you get home. Stay a little more active than usual at home, even when you are watching your favourite series...

In short, to get back to your pre-Christmas figure you do not have to think about big crash diets or starving yourself. If we adopt habits such as a good, varied and healthy diet, as well as introducing some changes and sticking to them for a few days, we will see that everything is in our hands and, above all, in our mind.
