Skin Cared For and Protected from the Cold in Six Steps

Cold, rain, humidity and wind are some of the greatest enemies of our skin at this time of year. Not to mention the sudden temperature changes we undergo when we turn on heating or air conditioning.

We know that sometimes having to pay too much attention to our skin and care for it can be a nuisance, but now that the cold is arriving it is time to prepare it so it looks beautiful and healthy in summer. Especially the most sensitive skin, with psoriasis or seborrhoeic or atopic dermatitis.

The coldest stage of the year begins and we are sorry to say this, but the skin suffers and notices it. The same thing happens to our body, respiratory tract and bones. So we need to find a solution right now!

Adverse weather conditions, sudden temperature changes, arriving at the office and staying in short sleeves because the heating is on full and you are hot, but when you go outside you put on a hat, gloves, scarf and coat because you cannot bear the cold that gets into your bones... Sounds familiar, right?

Our dermis takes the worst part, especially areas such as cheeks, lips, nose, neck, neckline and hands, as they are the most sensitive to these low temperatures. But do not worry: below we are going to give you six tips for skin that is cared for and protected from the cold.

But first, we want to remind you that now is the perfect time to start that depigmenting treatment you did not dare use in summer because you were constantly exposed to the sun. As well as preparing your skin, treat those little spots and marks caused by the sun, combating their reappearance.

Tips to prepare your skin for the arrival of cold weather

  • Daily hydration. This tip is undoubtedly the most important and the one you should remember firmly. It is essential to hydrate both your body and your skin every day, by drinking plenty of water and using creams with sun protection, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides, retinol and AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids).
  • Hydrate the lips. This point is closely related to the previous one. We often forget to protect them from high and low temperatures and the result is cracked, dry, irritated or burnt lips. So, to prevent this from happening, you know what you have to do: buy a lip balm with SPF and apply it as many times as necessary throughout the day.
  • Avoid very hot or very cold water in the shower. Extreme temperatures dehydrate the skin. The same happens when we wash our hands, especially if we use aggressive products.
  • Use sunglasses and daily sun protection. We already warned you in the previous tips: a cream or lip balm with SPF is essential so that our skin is protected and free from redness, spots, flaking, irritability or tightness, very common effects at this time of temperature changes when capillaries dilate.
  • Wear suitable warm clothing. Choose thermal garments made with cotton, which allow your skin to breathe and stay dry at the same time. Clothing that is too tight can prevent the body from perspiring and the skin may therefore be at risk of flaking.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol consumption. Smoking a cigarette or drinking alcohol generates free radicals, which noticeably and negatively affects the skin and its condition.

Six steps to follow if you want skin that is cared for and protected from this cold that is starting to settle into our routine. So now you know: this winter, moisturising cream and lip balm are going to become your best allies. Your skin will thank you!
