Nail fungus

Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, is a common infection that can affect both fingernails and toenails. This condition can cause discolouration, thickening and brittleness in the nails, as well as being uncomfortable and aesthetically unappealing. In today’s post, we explain how to prevent and treat nail fungus so you can get rid of it effectively. Keep reading!

What causes nail fungus?

This is caused by various types of fungi, including dermatophytes, yeasts and non-dermatophyte moulds. Among the factors that can increase the risk of developing this infection are:

  1. Warm, damp environments: Fungi thrive in warm, damp environments, such as public swimming pools, showers and gyms. To avoid this, it is advisable to dry your feet and hands thoroughly after showering and avoid keeping these areas of the body damp for too long.
  2. Unsuitable footwear: Wearing tight shoes or shoes made from materials that do not allow ventilation can create a fungus-friendly environment.
  3. Poor hygiene: As we mentioned earlier, not drying your feet properly or sharing scissors, nail files or other nail tools without disinfecting them can increase the risk.
  4. Weak immune systems: People with weakened immune systems, diabetes or circulatory problems are more susceptible.
  5. Nail injuries: Having damaged or traumatised nails also increases the likelihood of developing infections.

How to prevent nail fungus

  1. Maintain good foot and hand hygiene: Washing and drying your feet and hands thoroughly, especially between the toes and fingers, will help prevent nail fungus.
  2. Wear suitable footwear: Choose shoes that allow ventilation, are comfortable and are not too tight.
  3. Avoid walking barefoot in public places: Always wear sandals or flip-flops in swimming pools, public showers and changing rooms.
  4. Trim and file your nails properly: Keep your nails short and file them straight across to prevent them from splitting. And don’t forget to disinfect these tools if you borrow them!
  5. Wear cotton socks: Change your socks daily and choose materials that absorb moisture, such as cotton.

Urgo Filmogel Anti-Hongos: the effective treatment for nail fungus

Using topical antifungals in nail varnish form, applied directly to the affected nail, not only protects the nail against fungus, but also treats it if the infection is already present.

Our recommendation? Urgo Filmogel Anti-Hongos. It is an innovative treatment designed specifically to treat nail fungus. This product forms a protective film over the affected nail, helping to prevent fungal growth and making it easier to eliminate. It also helps strengthen the nail and prevent future infections.

What’s more, Urgo Filmogel Anti-Hongos is very easy to apply (simply apply it once a day to a clean, dry nail) thanks to its gel format, and it has proven effectiveness in reducing and eliminating nail fungus.
