In recent weeks, hair removal has been one of the most talked-about topics on social media, with questions like the ones we mentioned above. Whether it is necessary to use products for pre- and post-hair-removal skincare, or whether having laser treatment can be harmful if we are going to be in the sun...

But... do not panic. You can show off a tan and still enjoy hair-free skin. Not sure how? Take note of our tips for hair removal in summer.

Hair removal in summer: what steps should I follow?

Exfoliation

Is it good or bad to exfoliate the skin before hair removal?

It is good, and in fact highly recommended. Using My colleague Cristina already mentioned it in a video about exfoliation, but here is a quick explanation for anyone who missed it.

helps remove dead skin cells, leftover cream and traces of external agents. That way the pores can breathe better and hair removal becomes much easier.

exfoliants Hydration Hydration is a step that should be part of both your facial and body routine

all 365 days of the year, especially at times when the skin is more exposed, as happens in summer. You already know what we mean: sun exposure , wind and contact with substances such as chlorine. In these cases, it is best to choose a moisturiser made with soothing and hydrating agents such as aloe vera or rosehip.

And, ideally, it should not be formulated with alcohol or perfume. Do you know why? Because these ingredients can irritate the skin, and remember that after hair removal, it is more sensitive than usual.

Avoid the sun

Do not panic. This recommendation only applies for the 48 hours before and after hair removal.

As mentioned earlier, our skin is more sensitive than usual and needs time to recover, regardless of the hair removal method used.

Whether that is wax, cream or a razor. Important: when you do go in the sun, always use high sun protection, especially on sensitive areas such as the underarms or upper lip.

We know you know this already, but it does not hurt to repeat it, because otherwise that is when skin rashes, irritation and dark spots can appear.

Do not swim in the sea

As you probably know, sea water is often considered beneficial for its healing and respiratory properties. However, although it can help with skin wounds, in the case of hair removal its effects are quite the opposite.

Salt water after hair removal not only fails to calm skin sensitivity, it can actually increase it and cause irritation. Our advice? Avoid going to the beach and swimming after  hair removal . Laser hair removal in summer: can I have it done?

It depends on the clinic. Some

laser machines include cooling systems that protect the skin, meaning that even tanned skin can be treated. What is more, this technology also reduces the amount of time you need to avoid

sun exposure . However, not all hair removal centres use the same systems, as conventional lasers can be more aggressive on the skin. This means that the skin needs specific care before it is

exposed to the sun again

That said, it is always best to ask your specialist. And if they confirm you can go ahead, follow the advice on exfoliation, hydration, avoiding the sun and not swimming in the sea.
