How to treat hair loss after pregnancy

A woman may notice that after the birth of her baby she loses more hair than usual: more hair is left in the brush, on the pillow, on clothes, in the shower... What can be done about hair loss after pregnancy? We tell you in today's post.

It is completely normal. Most women experience hair loss after pregnancy. It is a physiological process in which, as oestrogen levels fall, hair enters the so-called telogen phase and falls out.

Post-pregnancy and hair loss

It is in the first months postpartum that hair begins to fall out, and this “side effect” of the end of pregnancy lasts for another six to nine months. We cannot prevent this process, but we can fight it with hair treatments and, of course, by taking care of our diet:

  • Use a gentle shampoo with pH 5.5. Avoid excessive aggressive hair treatments and overuse of hairdryers and straighteners. And yes, when we talk about this we also mean braids or ponytails.
  • You have surely noticed that clean hair is more voluminous and looks better. If you wash your hair every day, to avoid being too harsh on it, mix a little shampoo and a little water in your hand. That amount is enough for daily washing.
  • To stimulate and activate blood circulation in your scalp, massage it gently for 2 or 3 minutes. If your hair is dry, do it with your fingertips, and if it is oily, massage with the palm of your hand so as not to stimulate the sebaceous glands.
  • Consume vitamin B to keep nails and hair in good condition (fish, avocados, chicken, oats and soya, among other foods).
  • Take care of your calcium and iron levels and check them when your doctor indicates, as they also influence the condition of the hair.
  • There are also nutritional supplements to strengthen hair and give it density and volume, as well as specific lotions and shampoos for hair loss, although we always recommend consulting a doctor before starting any treatment, so they can tell us whether it is compatible with breastfeeding.

Iraltone Forte Melatonin anti-hair loss supplement

This strengthening supplement not only reinforces the hair, it also controls the factors that cause hair loss, thanks to its formula rich in vitamins and trace elements such as copper or zinc, which help protect cells against oxidative damage.

In addition, Iraltone Forte Melatonin is also formulated with melatonin, which helps you fall asleep and treat sleep problems that are so common after pregnancy.

Regarding directions for use, simply take one capsule a day before sleeping, provided that you are not breastfeeding and have opted for formula milk. In the case of breastfeeding women, it is always recommended to consult a specialist.

This Iraltone supplement consists of 60 capsules, for a two-month treatment. If you wish to take them for a longer period, on the Farmaciasdirect website we have a promotional pack with 180 capsules, to take for 6 months. Click here for more information about the pack.
